As a child in school, we called Nov. 11 Armistice Day. It commemorated the end of World War 1, signed at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month in France. The World War, as we called it back then, was supposed to end all wars. We know how that turned out.
I have known veterans from five wars; World War 1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan.
So, it seems that as Spanish philosopher George Santayana said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
